Here are a few top spots for foodies who come to Sandusky:

Crush Wine Bar

Tucked into a historic enclave off the waterfront, the Crush Wine Bar is a great place to start a night out or it can be a destination unto itself. In a chic but comfortable downtown atmosphere, Crush pops the cork on over 100 reasonably-priced wines. With lots of options for three-ounce pours and thoughtful three-wine flights (like the “California Cab Ride”), it’s easy to find something you’ll love. Zinc Brasserie

Across the street, the owners of Crush offer a smaller, more upscale option at the Zinc Brasserie. French and Italian standards fill the food menu, while the wine menu tempts with some of wine’s biggest names (and price tags if that’s what you’re after). J Bistro

Showing more of an urban cool side, J Bistro is another top stop for foodies in Sandusky. The locally-bent menu relies on novel combinations of super-fresh ingredients to get the job done. This creativity shines through in dishes like the Candy Striped Beets (with spiced pistachio dirt!). Chef Jesse Harris delivers on the table and he doesn’t disappoint in the glass either. Firelands Wine Co.

If drinking French or California reds in downtown Sandusky makes you feel a little detached from what’s in your glass, you’re just a few minutes from a great winery. The Firelands Wine Co. is part of a growing wine industry around Lake Erie. Take a tour, or just pop into the tasting room for an array of quality wines. Days in which rain is forecasted, the park will be less crowded, especially when it may rain in the morning. When it stops raining in the early afternoon, the park is less crowded that evening. On sunny and warm days, the park will be more crowded. Sunday’s are usually the least crowded day on weekends, except on weekends when Monday is a holiday. If possible, it is always best to spend two days at Cedar Point, as many people underestimate the size and time it will take to experience everything. We suggest staying at a nearby Sandusky hotel while visiting to maximize your trip.

GateKeeper at Cedar Point

Cedar Point’s newest addition for the 2013 is GateKeeper, a 170 foot tall Wing Ringer Roller Coasters. Unlike Cedar Point’s other roller coasters, riders on Gate Keeper will sit next to the track, instead of above or below. Here are the details you need to know when planning your trip to Cedar Point about GateKeeper.

What is the GateKeeper height requirement?
The GateKeeper height requirement is expected to be 52″. Guests will need to be at least 52″ inches to ride GateKeeper. Cedar Point has not officially announced this requirement, but this is the standard height restriction on similar roller coasters throughout the world.

When’s the best time to ride GateKeeper?
If possible, ride GateKeeper within the first 30 minutes of the park opening. If you are not able to get to the park before 9:30am, we recommend you experience other attractions first and return to GateKeeper later in the day. Due GateKeeper’s location at the front of the park, and being a popular new ride, the majority of guests will get in line first for GateKeeper. By returning in the mid to late afternoon, many other guests will have already experienced GateKeeper and will be enjoying other rides at this point.

Today Cedar Point is known for record breaking roller coasters and some of the most intense thrill rides in the world; however, this was not always the case for our beloved park. It once was a quaint beach resort known for the large groves of cedar trees that outlined the peninsula. Dating all the way back to 1870, Cedar Point first started as a bathing beach with small attractions and gradually turned in the Cedar Point we know today.

It’s tradition of being an old-fashion park and having the latest amusement rides makes Cedar Point unique from most parks. Today over three million people, from around the globe, visit Cedar Point every year finding themselves surrounded by it’s collection of roller coasters, rides, history, and natural beauty. This once tree covered peninsula is now one of the largest and most successful amusement parks in the world.
